It’s so cliché but it’s just hard to believe summer is over and another school year is beginning. This year is another milestone in our household because my 6 year old begins first grade, and in our town, this means she will be in school all day long.
My little one struggles with anxiety. When she was younger it was debilitating, but in recent years we’ve learned how to manage it and try to help her overcome some of her concerns and fears. Right now her biggest concern is riding the school bus in the first graders section. Not because she is afraid to sit with her peers, but because she is small, and there is no step on the floor like there is in the first row of seats on the bus. She feels nervous she will fall and has nothing to hold on to or to steady herself. So for the first few days, I will drive her to school, just to alleviate one of her back to school concerns. When she’s gotten used to going to her new classroom and new routine, then we can introduce the bus.
I can’t wait to see her all dressed up for the first day of school! We took some nice photos last year and I will continue to do that every year. I think it’s a great tradition. Once we have a good photo, I am going to take it to Walmart for the free back to school photo print offer (see below).
Back to School Lunchbox and Snack Ideas
Eating lunch at school with her friends is one thing she has really been looking forward to this year! I am a little nervous because it’s super easy to make sure there are healthy options at home for lunch, but including them in the lunchbox everyday is a bit daunting. I will for sure include these really cute Yummi Pouch lunchboxes that are part of the giveaway this month. They have separate areas so the food is contained, but can all be accessed at the same time. We all know how kids like to pick at different foods at the same time rather than inhaling one big portion!
She’s always loved fruit and yogurt pouches and we get them often when we are on the go. We decided to try the Del Monte Fruit Squeezers in her lunchbox this year. We picked them up from Walmart Super Store when I saw they include vegetables as well as fruit.
These are a really great option for school lunchboxes:
- Easy to open
- Stay fresh pouches
- Good for small hands
- No worries about dropping fruit on the floor
- Squeezable snack with 1 ½ servings of fruit & veggies
- 3.2-oz pouches
- No artificial fillers
