A few weeks ago I came down with the flu, which at that time I thought was just a nasty stomach virus. I was up sick all night and in the morning I could not even lift my head, let along get my child down to the bus stop! Of course, that was the one day my husband had back-to-back meetings at the office and couldn’t stay home to help. So my kids were left on their own. I suppose it was a blessing in disguise that I couldn’t get my first-grader to school because she helped me with the younger kids.
Ok, so when I say “helped” I mean she “helped” her siblings get into the nutella jar and have a feast of chocolate on bread. But, she did make sure they didn’t cut themselves, fall down the stairs, or otherwise physically harm themselves. There is something to be said about just keeping the kids safe. And away from mommy!
In the meantime, my cat was so confused because lately I’ve been shacking up in my preschooler’s room trying to help ease him into sleeping in there by himself. It’s not going so well.
So when I turned the corner to go into my room with the big comfy bed and electric blanket, my cat meowed at me because he knew I needed to be in bed and where in the world was I headed?
When my mother-in-law arrived that night, I proceeded to use up all of my available energy cleaning up and organizing the house, which of course left me worse off than before. The stomach pains were so painful I thought I might need a trip to the emergency room! I think it was my body’s way of saying, “What were you thinking about, woman?”
I just don’t know how to sit still.
Thank goodness for my kitty. I was ordered to stay in bed the entire weekend and my cat made sure of it. He sat on my chest for hours on end, not even bugging me for his fave tuna, Fancy Feast. Pets are so intuitive and really know when something is up and Buddy is no different. Ever since my mother passed four months ago, he has always been around me. I was afraid of him becoming the substitute for my beloved kitty who passed away in the summer, so I didn’t really give him much attention.
But Buddy grew on me. He started coming to me seeking attention, sitting on my lap as a reminder to sit still for a bit of time each day, reminding me to stop and grieve. He started doing things only with me – kneading my legs, nipping my fingers, and sleeping in the crook of my arm. This kind of gentle affection is what I needed in those months after my mother passed. Something that would bring me back to sanity after a crazy day with kids amidst all of my sadness.
Buddy does this quite often – get comfortable on or next to me and refuses to move. He is a good reminder for me to simmer down.
So I was only too happy to stock up on Fancy Feast, which he’s been eating for years. Right now at Target they have a great offer to buy two big packs of tuna cans and get a FREE jumbo bag of treats or a toy! Fancy Feast is by far his favorite tuna and he does not miss a meal. Thanks to Fancy Feast, when Buddy is outside for too long in the evenings and the sun is setting, we just go outside and click the tab on the top of the can. He almost always comes running like a racehorse!
I love giving him this tuna because every delicious Fancy Feast selection is made with high-quality protein sources and ingredients. In our house, we have a chore calendar to keep track of which child is giving the cats their tuna, only because the kids fight over the job! They all WANT to do it because Buddy is so happy when he gets his tuna.
For over 25 years, Fancy Feast has been committed to preparing the most enjoyable gourmet meals for your cat. Their quest for culinary perfection is a pursuit to bring love and joy along with balanced nutrition.
Once in awhile my toddler gets to give Buddy treats. He doesn’t always love them, even though we purchase Fancy Feast exclusively. That is, before we tried the Party Mix! We’ve never tried this one before and not only did Buddy LOVE it, but the fat siamese who NEVER eats treats, actually came to check out the treat party and get in on things.
