I write about health and wellness all the time, yet I can’t seem to find the time to exercise. When I was single, I was in my prime. I exercised every single day (almost) and never felt better. Now it’s 15 years, three kids and 25 pounds later and I am finding it harder and harder to find time to work in working out.
Every time I step outside, I feel the pull of my feet on the pavement. I feel them making their presence known. It’s like they are talking to me, telling me to get moving. “What’s the big deal?” they say. Well, first of all, I don’t have good sneakers. I have a condition known as lymphodema so my feet tend to swell and I have a really hard time buying shoes.
I guess the second of all is that I am a procrastinator. I need to finish something on the site first. I need to take a nap first. I need to clean the house first. Blah, blah blah. Let’s just get the sneakers and get out there!
I really like Reebok – they are a local company even though they are owned by Adidas now, whose headquarters are in Germany. In 2014 the Adidas Group is among the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World” for the 10th time in a row, this year ranked #8.
I am not a runner, but I decided that my best option to get in shape is to try a Couch to 5k. I really want to like running. I am not going to start running marathons or anything but I would like to run better than I do now. I want to not hate it so much. My kids are getting older and I need to be able to run well to keep up with them and keep them active! I don’t want to be the old pokey mommy that slows them down.
I don’t expect my muffin top to disappear (queue this awesome video below) but it would be nice to feel good about myself and have some more energy to boot.
What is the Couch to 5K?
According to C25K™, with the couch (potato) to 5k (three miles),
- Alternate between walking and running until you build strength
- C25K™ is designed for people who are just taking up running
- C25K is an 8 week long plan
- You workout 3 times a week, ideally with breaks between days
- Each workout session is from 30-40 minutes long (including 5 minutes warm up and 5 minutes cool down)
This program is perfect for newbies and out-of-shape runners alike. I’m totally not up to starting my couch to 5k outside where people might see me and I am fortunate to have a treadmill in the basement. And to help in my sneaker quest, Reebok has some really great sneakers that work well both outside and inside. Their new customizable ZQuick for women work in the gym as well as out on the roads. They are inspired by high performance tires, lightweight, durable and ready to take you wherever your training leads. Here is my affiliate link to check them out on your own: Women’s Customizable ZQuick from Reebok. There is no extra charge for you to click that link, by the way.
