What do you care about? I care about getting enough sleep, having coffee every morning and eating healthy. I also care about my family and want them to be happy. I recently lost both my parents to health issues so I also care about keeping me and my family healthy so we don’t suffer any more tragedy.
My mom suffered from a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor and I often wonder how much of those bad cells grew because of the ingredients in her food. She tried to eat healthy and she believed the marketing of her food would not mislead her.
We all know this happens, though, right? And that’s why we NEED to have companies label their products.
So, what do YOU care about? For most of us moms, it’s keeping our kids safe and healthy. It means asking what’s in their kids’ food so we can feel comfortable in the food we feed them every day.
Large food companies combined have spent more than $100 million to fight GMO labeling campaigns across the country. Did you know there is actually a bill in Congress known as The DARK act (Denying Americans the Right to Know) which sets out to prevent mandatory FDA labeling of GMOs. This bill has gathered significant support from The Grocery Manufacturers Association, which has such members as PepsiCo, the parent company of Quaker Oats. With an image based on health and “wholesome goodness” Quaker is sending mixed messages by hiding what is in their products. One of the things the DARK act would do is allow “natural” foods to contain GMO ingredients. It is outrageous that our legislators think this okay.
Just Label It just released this inspiring video featuring some of our favorite celebrity moms who stand with us (and the vast majority of Americans!) in support of GMO labeling. I am so excited to see moms like Jillian Michaels, Sara Gilbert, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Sarah Michelle Gellar using their star power to support GMO labeling because they are moms first and we moms all want to know what our kids are eating!
This group of moms asked big food companies to stop blocking their right to know what’s in the food they feed their families. Have you signed the petition yet?
If what’s in your kids’ food is important to you, be sure to sign the petition here and share this video to help spread the word!
