Should You Drain Canned Chickpeas?
If you’re anything like me, you love chickpeas. They’re versatile, nutritious, and delicious. However, you may be wondering if you should drain the liquid from canned chickpeas before using them. The answer? It depends on what you’re making. If you’re making hummus, you’ll want to reserve the liquid (also known as aquafaba) as it makes a great vegan egg replacement in recipes. But if you’re adding chickpeas to a salad or soup, draining them is your best bet to avoid a soggy and unappetizing dish. In any case, don’t throw out that liquid gold without considering its potential!
What are the Health Benefits of Chickpeas?
Chickpeas, or garbanzo beans as some like to call them, aren’t just small, cute, and tasty legumes to add to your salads and curries. They are a powerhouse packed with nutrients that offer many health benefits. Chickpeas are loaded with protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them a fantastic addition to any balanced diet.
They can keep you full for longer due to their protein and fiber content, help lower your blood sugar levels due to their low glycemic index, and assist in reducing inflammation, which is linked to several chronic diseases. These unassuming little beans can also boost your heart health, strengthen your bones, and help with weight management.
With so many health benefits, there’s no excuse not to add chickpeas to your diet. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or a meat lover, these beans are a perfect fit for anyone who wants to live a healthier lifestyle.
What Does Avocado Do in a Salad?
If you’re a salad lover like me, you probably appreciate the little extras that make it more than just a bunch of greens and veggies. One such addition – the beloved avocado. Not only does avocado add a pop of color to any salad, but it also brings a wealth of nutrients with it.
This little fruit (yes, fruit!) is chock-full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and vitamins C and K. Plus, it creates a creamy texture that perfectly complements crispy lettuce and juicy tomatoes. So next time you’re tossing together a salad, don’t forget to grab an avocado. Your taste buds – and your body – will thank you!
This easy healthy recipe is a creamy chicken chickpea salad recipe with avocado. It’s made with roasted chickpeas (crunchy, spicy and oh so good), juicy chicken, your salad mix of choice and a generous drizzle of a homemade creamy Italian dressing. You can make it with basil, parsley, oregano, parmesan cheese, garlic, olive oil and just a little bit of cream, just like this recipe.
I prepared everything in advance and then just kept it in the fridge stored in airtight containers for a couple of days. That way you can have a mix and match salad ready to go.
You can also add the ingredients to mason jars and keep tightly closed for up to a week in the refrigerator! These make it so easy to grab and go for lunch.
