How Do I Make Sure My Apples Don’t Turn Brown After Cutting?
You’ve carefully sliced your juicy red apples for a healthy snack, but within minutes, they’ve turned an unappetizing shade of brown. Don’t worry, there’s an easy solution to this common problem. The key is to prevent oxygen from coming into contact with the apple’s flesh, which triggers the browning reaction.
Try squeezing a bit of lemon juice over the cut pieces or dipping them into a mixture of three parts water and one part honey. Covering the apples tightly with plastic wrap or placing them in an airtight container can also do the trick. With a little bit of effort, you can keep your apples looking fresh and delicious for hours after cutting.
How Can I Make My Christmas Tree Cheese Appetizer Look Extra Festive?
Get creative with your toppings! Consider adding some red and green grapes, thinly sliced bell peppers, or even pomegranate seeds to add a pop of color to your Christmas tree cheese appetizer. You can also use parsley or chives as the ‘tree’ decorations for a more traditional look.
And don’t forget to sprinkle some edible glitter or colorful sugar crystals for a touch of holiday sparkle. Have fun and let your imagination run wild! So why wait? Christmas Tree Cheese Appetizer
Try this festive and healthy Christmas tree cheese appetizer! Perfect for holiday gatherings and a great way to enjoy a guilt-free indulgence.
Ingredients
- 24 Pieces of Yellow Cheddar Squares, either purchased or cut at home about 1/8" thick
- 6 Granny Smith Apples
- 6 Grape Tomatoes
- Ritz Crackers, or something that a toothpick can piece easily
- Toothpicks
- Star Cookie Cutters in graduated sizes
Instructions
- Begin by cutting the tomatoes in half and removing the seeds. Then place on paper towel to drain any liquid.
- Cut out all of your cheese, so first cut all the size 1 stars and place aside, then do the same with the size 3 and the size 5. I used a block of cheese and cut it into slices, but realized it's probably easier to purchase slices as long as they aren't too thin.
- Next, slice your apples. Slice a small quarter size off opposite sides of each apple (about the size of the smallest star), then start cutting pieces that are about 1/8" thick, until you reach the core. Put them all aside. They will all be used!
- Now, take your toothpicks, and start assembling. First put your tomato on so the closed part is at the top of the toothpick. Then add the smallest piece of cheese. Next add your smallest apple. And so on, until you are adding your largest piece of cheese. You may have to cut your toothpick. Then pierce the cracker to make a stand and you have your treat!
