Thanksgiving is special in its own right, with the intent to think of others, but it is entirely too easy to go overboard with fatty and caloric choices and spend the whole day cooking and eating. By eating foods that are healthy and aid in digestion, the holiday can be enjoyed in comfort and the true meaning of the holiday can be remembered.
It’s so easy to make substitutions to create a healthier version of a formerly fatty dish. Take the green bean casserole, for instance. Instead of using the canned cream of chicken soup with all the extra unnecessary ingredients, how about making the cream sauce from scratch? The easiest and most simple way to do it is to use 2 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons flour, ½ cup low sodium chicken broth, ½ cup low-fat milk and salt and pepper to taste.
