Grape Nuts Flakes- Grape Nuts Flakes are a key ingredient that adds a healthful boost to our Honey Nut Snack Mix. They are made from whole grain wheat, offering an excellent source of dietary fiber which aids in digestion. Their crunchy texture not only enhances the overall snack experience, but also provides a slower energy release compared to refined grains, keeping you satisfied and energized for longer.
Quick Cooking Oats- Quick Cooking Oats are a game-changer for our Honey Nut Snack Mix, infusing our snack with a wealth of health benefits. These oats are rich in soluble fiber, which aids digestion, helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, and can lower cholesterol. Moreover, they are a great source of complex carbohydrates, providing sustained energy to keep you going throughout your day.
Pecans- Pecans are a powerhouse of health and taste in our Honey Nut Snack Mix. These delectable nuts bring a satisfying crunch to our snack mix, while packing in a host of nutritional benefits. They’re rich in monounsaturated fats and contain polyphenols, antioxidants that help protect against heart disease and certain types of cancer. Pecans are also a good source of dietary fiber which aids in digestion and provides a feeling of fullness, helping to control hunger.
Coconut Oil- Coconut oil is a vital ingredient that amplifies the health benefits of our Honey Nut Snack Mix. Coconut oil is unique because it contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are directly utilized by the body for energy, helping to boost your metabolism. Additionally, coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which is known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Honey- Honey is nature’s liquid gold, bringing a wealth of health benefits to our Honey Nut Snack Mix. Its natural sweetness comes with a host of nutrients, including antioxidants that help to protect your body from cell damage due to free radicals. Honey is a healthier choice compared to refined sugar, as it is less processed and retains more of its natural beneficial properties. Additionally, honey has antimicrobial properties, which can support your immune system.
Dried Cranberries- Dried cranberries bring a tangy burst of flavor to our Honey Nut Snack Mix, along with a powerhouse of health benefits. Despite their small size, cranberries are high in antioxidants, which help to protect the body against damage from free radicals. They also contain a unique type of antioxidant called proanthocyanidins (PACs) that can prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract, promoting urinary health.

What is a Good Flake Cereal for Snack Mixes?

Flake cereals are a staple in snack mixes for a reason – they’re the perfect balance of crunchy, light, and satisfying. But with so many options on the market, it can be hard to know which ones are truly healthy. Fortunately, there are plenty of flakes out there that are nutritious and tasty, too! For example, bran flakes are high in fiber and low in sugar, making them a great choice for anyone looking to add some staying power to their snack mix.

Meanwhile, whole grain flakes like spelt and quinoa offer complex carbs and protein, along with a nutty taste that’s sure to please. And last but not least, don’t forget about classic corn flakes – they may be simple, but they’re still a solid choice if you’re in the mood for something crunchy and easy to munch on. No matter which flake cereal you choose, adding a handful to your next snack mix is an easy way to fuel up without sacrificing taste!

In my family, anything with nuts, cereal and raisins, mixed in buttery, honey goodness is a hit. It was a plus that I added mini-chocolate chips to the honey nut snack mix just for fun. The kids didn’t even notice that most of the mix was raisin bran (Post brand, because it’s more natural than others). I made other substitutions based on what we had on hand.

I used Post Raisin Bran and Honey Nut Fake-Chex, which was actually the store brand (Market Basket) and surprisingly naturally-sweetened! I also used only half the butter and honey since I was adding the sweetened cereal and chocolate chips, which served to hold the mix together a bit. Normally I would use coconut oil in place of the butter for extra nutrition.
