You have to try this natural lip balm recipe for dry lips – I love Burt’s Bees lip balm and this one is so much like it because it’s made with natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals.
I love adding peppermint (mentha piperita) and tea tree oil (melaleuca alternifolia) to my lip balm. Tea tree oil is so healing and can relieve chapped lips as well as cold sores.
The volatile hydrocarbons found in the oil are considered aromatic and capable of traveling through air, pores of the skin and mucus membranes. That’s why tea tree oil is commonly used aromatically and topically to kill germs, fight infections and soothe skin conditions.
Shea Butter for Lips
Shea Butter is a rich source fatty acids and can also provide topical skin-soothing benefits. Shea Butter is said to have anti-inflammatory properties and is often used to heal and prevent chapped lips.
Shea butter is highly emollient which means that it’s excellent at preventing dryness speeds up the cell-renewal process.
Shea and cocoa butter are both natural types of fats that come from the shea tree and cocoa bean, respectively. Butters, like shea and cocoa, help your lips hold on to moisture and help heal chapped lips, according to the AAD.
Coconut Oil for Lips
The primary benefit of coconut oil is its moisturizing effects. With its nourishing fatty acid content, vitamins, and minerals, it’s a prime ingredient to soothe and soften the skin.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint essential oil has antibacterial properties which means it helps keep the cracks in your lips from becoming infected.
