Everyone enjoys Memorial Day, for it is an important day of remembrance, to honor the veterans that served in the military and those who gave their lives to do so. It’s also the start of the summer season, of family and friends gathering for fun and good times. Serve up these Memorial Day appetizers at your cookout. As we observe Memorial Day and gather together this year, I hope we can all remember WHY we have Memorial Day. In our town we have a Memorial Day parade which the kids love. Yes, there is candy thrown into the crowd by those in the parade, but it is still all about the armed forces.
I always talk to my kids about the real meaning of Memorial Day. They know it is a day to honor those people who have served in the armed forces and veterans who are both living and those who gave their lives for our country. It is also a day to honor our first responders, as they risk their lives with every call they receive.
But while we are thinking about the real meaning of Memorial Day, we can also be celebrating and having a good time with family and friends! There’s no better way to do it than with Memorial Day healthy appetizers!
