Opening The Door To Spring Fun: Outdoor Family Activities

After being in the house all winter, spring is a welcome season for anyone, especially parents.

Here are 3 fun family activities to get your kids out of the house.

As a parent you love your kids, but when the sun starts to shine and temperature heats up you can’t wait to open the door and let them run. It doesn’t matter how many kids you have, spring time is a relief to all parents. Kids can unplug from video games, computers and television and get outside and explore, while you take a breath of fresh air. However, they are your kids and you do love them so you can do some things as a family. Here are some fun spring activities for the whole family.

A day at the park

Get out and plan on spending a day at your neighborhood park. After a long winter, the park will seem like a new world to your kids. Most parks offer something for kids of all ages, with basketball hoops, tennis courts and plenty of space to play catch for the older kids. For the younger kids, the playground will offer an afternoon adventure. Pack a lunch and have a picnic and make a whole day of it.

Take a Nature Hike

Spring is one of the best times to explore nature. Many birds are hatching, animals are coming out of hibernation and plants and flowers are starting to grow. This is a great way for kids to get some exercise and explore a new trail. They’ll be excited about the new things they’ll see and you’ll enjoy getting fresh air and being in nature with your family.

Backyard sporting events

You don’t have to get carried away and actually leave the house in order to have fun. There are plenty of fun activities you can do in the backyard. After being cooped up all winter the kids will be excited to get outside and run around the backyard. An idea to make it more interesting is set up an obstacle course or various games to keep them interested longer. You could have yard game Olympics. Have a bean bag toss, jumping games, throwing games and more. Competition is always a good driver for kids to have fun and they’re getting exercise. Mom and Dad can jump in the fun as well and you could have a family competition.

Whether you join in on a community event, jump on a trail, swing in a park or just have a good time in your backyard, getting outside in the spring is great. It’s such a relief to open the doors know it’s warm again and get some exercise as a family.
