With warmer weather upon us, it’s time to get outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer. And what better way to do so than by engaging in some fun outdoor activities? From adventurous hikes to calming picnics, here is an amazing Spring Bucket List for Families that you won’t want to miss out on.
Immerse yourself in the fresh air, bask in the sun’s gentle warmth on your skin – aren’t these moments ideal for Self Care? Outdoor activities provide a delightful escape to rejuvenate both mind and body. Whether embarking on a bike ride, walking through the park, or simply savoring tea in your yard, it’s more than just time spent – it’s soul nourishment. Step outside and feel the change – it’s well worth it for your body and soul.
When a beautiful spring day comes upon us, it’s important to enjoy it, after a long cold winter. It’s so good to get that vitamin D from the sun on our faces and feel it in our hearts. Plus, the spring is so finicky with the rain nourishing the plants, the gorgeous days are not consistent.
I always love to open the blinds and front door and let the warm sun in the house. Even if the air is still cold, the sun is so warm. Here are some really fun outdoor activities that you can enjoy this time of year when the air gets a little bit warmer.
1. Plan a Picnic With Friends or Family
The first outdoor activity to enjoy in the Spring is with a picnic! There are many ways to have a fun picnic with your friends or family, from heading to a nearby park or natural reserve, to going to a local lake or harbor.
2. Go on Nature Walks
Try to go on more nature walks this Spring! They are amazing for reducing stress, getting more sunshine and fresh air, and moving your body. One of my favorite is a straight trail through the woods where we see water, evidence of animals and gorgeous nature.
The best thing about nature walks is that they can be done absolutely anywhere, and won’t cost you any money. Unless you have to pay a parking fee at a park or to get into a national park, most places will be free or at least very inexpensive.
3. Bird Watching
This is also the perfect time to start bird watching. Do you know the different types of birds? My grandma used to have birds come to her kitchen window and she’d talk to them in a soothing voice and knew them all. They’d return because they loved how she spoke to them.
4. Get Your Bicycle Out For Some Cycling
Another physical activity that can help you improve your health while also enjoying nature in the Spring is with biking. The great thing about biking is that all you need is a bicycle and proper cycling gear, and you can go just about anywhere.
Whether you choose to stay local and ride your bike around neighborhood streets, or head to a nearby bike trail, it allows you to cover more miles and see more nature than if you were walking.
5. Get Back to Your Garden
Don’t you love cleaning up your garden after a long winter of neglect? Gardening is one of the best outdoor activities for the Spring season, with so many benefits such as getting more vitamin D from the sun’s UV rays, getting fresh air, and of course getting some gentle exercise.
Gardening is not only a wonderful hobby but also a therapeutic activity that has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental and emotional well-being. It allows individuals to connect with nature, reduce stress levels, and promote a sense of accomplishment and tranquility.
6. Practice Yoga Outside
If you enjoy a daily yoga practice, consider taking it outside. This is one of many exercises that are very easy to transition to participating in outside. Even if you do your yoga by watching videos on YouTube, you can easily do this by bringing your laptop, iPad or phone outside.
Just make sure where you practice is soft enough, so get an extra padded yoga mat or try practicing with your mat on grass or sand at the beach. You can also use a blanket or heavy towel for your yoga.
7. Discover Photography
When it comes to creative activities in the Spring, there are so many to choose from. But if you want something you can do outside, it doesn’t get much better than photography.
With photography, you are able to use the creative part of your brain, while also enjoying being outside in nature. This is an activity you can do alone, which also doubles as self-care, but you can also bring family or friends to enjoy this activity.
Whether you take pictures of the natural landscape where you live, go on a road trip to explore different areas, take macro photography of flowers and insects, or photos of your family and pets, it is an amazing way to spend more time outside.
8. Visit a Farm
Spring is not only the season of blooming flowers and warmer weather but also a time when numerous farms welcome visitors with open doors. It’s so fun to visit with friendly farm animals, from fluffy bunnies to playful goats. This experience is not just fun; it’s a valuable educational opportunity and one you can walk away from with fresh foods and produce!
9. Take a Hike
Take advantage of blooming flowers, warmer temperatures, and longer days by going on a scenic hike. You can find trails suitable for all levels of experience, from easy strolls to challenging treks. A friend of mine has a goal to do 52 hikes this year, one for each week. I love that idea, and she takes random photos of things she sees on the way, which afterward are beautiful keepsakes of her adventures!
10. Have a Bonfire
Gather around a bonfire with friends and family, roast marshmallows, tell stories and enjoy the warmth of the fire on a cool spring evening. This might just be my most favorite spring activity. When it’s still chilly in the evenings, you can light up a fire pit in your yard and chill with friends in front of the warmth and enjoy the spring air. Give your kids some tiny lights to attach to their hands or wrist and they can play nighttime tag.
Spring is a season brimming with endless opportunities for joy, renewal, and bonding with nature and loved ones. From the simple pleasure of a park picnic to the thrill of hikes and bike rides, there’s a magical essence in witnessing nature awaken from its winter slumber. Whether tending to a garden, practicing yoga outdoors, or capturing the season’s beauty through photography, each activity presents a special way to embrace the vibrant life surrounding us. These moments of exploration and shared experiences create lasting memories of spring. So, put on your shoes, grab your camera, and step outside – a world of adventure awaits this season!
