What are Plantar Warts?

Plantar warts are a common condition that affects the foot. They appear as small lumps and usually appear under one’s feet. They can affect either a child or an adult. The warts are caused by the HPV virus that spreads easily. HPV spreads fast because it can penetrate your body through small tiny cracks and cuts in your feet.

You can get a Planter warts infection while walking shoeless. This regularly happens within the swimming pool area or gym. Thankfully, plantar warts are not something to worry about as they don’t impose any danger on the body. However, some can be quite painful and, if left untreated, they can take approximately two years to clear.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Plantar Warts

There are several home remedies that one can use to reduce them. Recommended home remedies that one can use include tea tree oil, salicylic acid, or apple cider vinegar. One efficient essential oil that does the magic in reducing plantar warts is tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil has been in use for over 100 centuries for its medicinal value. It has a unique distinct fresh camphor scent. It contains antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. You can use the oil to treat skin conditions such as acne, fungal infections, and cleaning wounds.

Tea tree oil contains antiviral properties which might help curb the spread of plantar warts. A study carried out in 2013 indicated that tea tree oil could prevent the spread of influenza. However, more research is required to confirm the same on the HPV virus.

Tea tree oil has a positive impact on improving immunity. You can apply the solution to warts to enable white blood cells to fight the infection.

A research study carried out in 2008 reported one successful case of treatment of warts on a child’s finger but, more research is required to confirm that it does kill plantar warts.

How long does Tea Tree Oil take to kill warts?

From research studies carried out, it takes 12 days to completely heal warts by applying the tea tree solution once a day to the affected area.

How Do You Use Tea Tree Oil for Plantar Warts?

Essential oils should not be applied topically to the skin without diluting it with either a carrier oil or water. Application of the oil when it’s concentrated may worsen the condition as the oils are too potent. You can mix the essential oils with carrier oils such as coconut oil or almond oil.

Dilute the Tea Tree Oil

  1. Dilute tea tree oil in water or carrier oil.
  2. Soak a cotton ball into the solution.
  3. Apply a small solution to the wart twice or once a day.
  4. Repeat this procedure every day until the wart disappears.

Use it concentrated

Soak a cotton ball in a highly concentrated solution and apply to the affected area for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat it twice a day.

Tea tree oil is a multipurpose oil that can be used in the house for disinfection or medicinal purposes. It does help to reduce warts but, more research is needed on plantar warts. Before application of tea tree oil, kindly consult your doctor to give you the go-ahead.
